Jack Colback was thrilled to open his Newcastle account as his side ended 2014 with victory over Everton.
The midfielder scored the decisive goal in a 3-2 success at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon to end of run of three consecutive defeats.
Ross Barkley failed to control a through ball into the box gifting it to Colback to push through the legs of Joel Robles and he admitted it was a relief to break his duck in his 21st appearance for the club.
He told Sky Sports: "It's nice to finally get one. It was a long time coming. I've had chances in other games and not took them but it's nice to put that one away."
Aroune Kone had put Everton into an early lead, before goals from Papiss Cisse and Ayoze Perez saw Newcastle surge back into the game.
Cisse's strike was his ninth of the season and Colback believes the hitman is in great form right now.
He added: "I think you always know what you're going to get with Papiss.
"When he's in or around the box he's lethal at the moment. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time and he put that one away which was an important goal for us because obviously we were 1-0 down and under pressure - especially at home - but that got us back into the game."
