Premier League: Robert Green says home games are key for QPR in relegation battle
Friday 19 December 2014 22:10, UK
Robert Green believes QPR’s home form over the Christmas period will be vital to their chances in the fight to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Harry Redknapp’s side have enjoyed an excellent run of results at Loftus Road in recent weeks and have lost just one of their last seven in the league at home.
And with games against West Brom, Crystal Palace and Swansea coming up over the festive period, Green wants his side to continue their good form in front of their own fans

“With West Brom, Palace and Swansea you’d say they’re not your big six teams that you’re playing against,” Green told Sky Sports.
“It’s games (against teams) that are in and around us we’ve done well in. In the last two we’ve played Leicester and Burnley and picked up points against them so that was pleasing.
“We’re looking to continue that on Saturday and then after we play Arsenal away from home.”
In stark contrast, QPR are on a run of eight straight defeats away from Loftus Road and much of their current plight in the Premier League is down to their form on the road.
Rangers currently sit 18th in table – just one point from safety – and while Green does not have the answer to the team’s away woes, he wants his side to keep believing they can turn things around.
He said: “If we knew the answer we’d do something about it. It’s a tough one because we’ve played three games where we’ve not turned up and not done ourselves justice. Unfortunately two of them were live on Sky.
“You look at the game on Monday and we we’re going toe-to-toe with Everton but found ourselves 2-0 down at half-time to strikes that both got deflections.
“We played Newcastle up at their place and (were) seemingly heading towards a 0-0 draw and (at) Swansea (were) getting to the latter stages of the game with a 0-0 draw but ended up losing both those games. If we’d taken something from those games we wouldn’t be answering these questions.
“That’s where we are at the moment but we need to keep the belief and keeping confidence high is key.”
Meanwhile, Hoops boss Redknapp has held productive meetings wither owner Tony Fernandes about the club’s January transfer plans and Green hopes his side can add another striker during next month’s transfer window.
“We’ve got three recognised strikers in the squad,” the former England goalkeeper added.
“Obviously it’s an area of the squad that they’re looking to improve but so does everyone else in January.
“If you asked every manager what they want they’d say another striker and there’s only so many around. In that respect it’s a tough ask.”
