Scotland skipper Scott Brown believes the 3-1 defeat by England at Celtic Park will bring his side back to earth following their recent run of fine results.
Gordon Strachan's side approached the game in high spirits after their 1-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland at the same venue last Friday.
The result lifted Scotland into third place in the European Qualifying Group D table, level on points with Germany and Ireland, and three adrift of leaders Poland.
The victory over Ireland followed on from a defeat of Georgia and a draw in Warsaw and Brown is convinced the reality check against Roy Hodgson's side will benefit the Scots for the remainder of the campaign.
Scotland resume their bid to qualify for the finals in France in 2016 with a home match against Gibraltar in March before heading to Dublin for the 'return' with the Irish at the end of the season.
"It will definitely keep our feet on the floor," said the Celtic captain. "Everyone knows how good England are, we know they have pace and they pressed us high up the park and we struggled with that.
"We didn't play to our game plan. We didn't get on the ball, we weren't brave enough and didn't create enough chances. We didn't get the ball down, we didn't play well, we didn't press and we made mistakes.
"We are disappointed with ourselves but the main thing is we got three points against Republic of Ireland and are sitting well in the group, and it is better to lose in a friendly match than in the Euro qualifiers."
