Newcastle's Steven Taylor says the club have delivered the goods after a tough period

Steven Taylor wants Newcastle United to now go on a winning run after overcoming their difficult start to the season.

Sunday’s 2-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur was only Newcastle’s second of the season but it followed last weekend’s success against Leicester City.

And defender Taylor is determined he and his team-mates can kick on from those back-to-back wins after previously failing in seven Premier League games under Alan Pardew this season.

“It has been difficult,” the centre-back admitted to Sky Sports.

“We have taken a lot of criticism in the past. [But] I think, the last few weeks, we have delivered.

“The boys came out fighting. One-nil behind, it was a difficult one for us. But we stuck in it well.”

Taylor added: “It was what we needed. It was a relief last week against Leicester and now we can move on and hopefully get a winning streak.”

Second-half goals from Sammy Ameobi and Ayoze Perez cancelled out Emmanuel Adebayor’s opener at White Hart Lane.

Ameobi’s equaliser was particularly impressive as it came just eight seconds after he had come on as a half-time substitute.

The forward said: “He [Pardew] told me go on and do what he believes in me.”
