Peter Crouch hailed Stoke loan signing Victor Moses after the duo combined for the only goal in the 1-0 win over Newcastle.

The Potters rose to 11th spot in the Premier League table on Monday night as Crouch's 15th-minute header from a Moses cross proved enough to sink the Magpies, who remain 19th.

Moses beat players on the left before exchanging a one-two with Charlie Adam, and then picked out Crouch as the former England striker towered over Fabricio Coloccini before heading past Tim Krul.

Jack Colback had a great chance to equalise for the visitors late on at the Britannia Stadium but hit the woodwork from four yards out after Gabriel Obertan's cross.

"You could tell at the end that that was an important result," Crouch told Sky Sports.

"It was a little bit nervy but we're back to winning ways. Last year, this was a fortress so I hope we can maintain that this season."

Crouch was quick to hail Moses for the assist.

"Victor's been our main threat so far this year, and he’s going to get quality balls into the box," he added. "It was a great delivery and I'm pleased with the goal."

Moses is with the Potters on a season-long loan from Chelsea and has impressed in his four Premier League appearances to date this season, after struggling to get games in a similar spell at Liverpool last term.

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher said that Peter Crouch gave Stoke something Newcastle haven't got after his winning goal gave the Potters a 1-0 win.

"We're delighted with this three points," said the Nigeria winger, who had a good shout for a penalty turned down when bundled over in the box by Yoan Gouffran in the first half.

"It was a crucial game for us and the big man here got the goal, so we’re very pleased.

"I'm surprised I didn’t get a penalty, but the referee didn’t give it - that’s football. Today was a major step up and hopefully we can start winning games as much as possible."

Next up for Stoke is a trip to Sunderland on Saturday, when Newcastle travel to Swansea.
