Premier League: Sunderland boss Gus Poyet seeing positive signs after Swansea draw
Saturday 27 September 2014 18:20, UK
Sunderland boss Gus Poyet felt his side deserved to take all three points after being held to a 0-0 draw at home by Swansea City.
Poyet’s men remain in search of a first Premier League win of the season and they enjoyed the better chances in a largely forgettable encounter at the Stadium of Light.
Adam Johnson and Santiago Vergini were kept at bay by Lukasz Fabianski in the first half, while Connor Wickham and substitute Steven Fletcher both should have done better with headers after the break.

Swansea were reduced to ten men as Angel Rangel was shown a second yellow card on 81 minutes, but the hosts were still unable to find a way through despite their late pressure.
"What do we have to do to win a football game? Because today we did everything," Poyet told Sky Sports.
"We were the better team in the beginning. 11 v 11 – especially in the second half – we were creating the chances.
"We were the team looking to have that winning goal and of course with the player sent off, it was even more.
"We could not put the ball in the net and take advantage."
Sunderland were beaten during the week – crashing out of the Capital One Cup at home to Stoke – and Poyet hopes their fortunes will change once they get a league win under their belts.
"I think that is the problem. I need to concentrate on the way that we play, how the players perform and how organised we are and how many chances we create," he said.
"Sometimes a player, whoever you are, needs to get that decision, that shot or that header in the back of the net to win the game.
"I think it’s a great opportunity this one because you can be the hero of the team, the one that is going to play week in, week out.
"I cannot ask for more because we tried all day. We did everything on the right and the left, direct passing and patience.
"I know that people want the ball forward because they are used to different football but that doesn’t concern me because this is the way to play and this is the way we’re going to win games."
Asked if he was staying relaxed despite a winless start to the campaign, Poyet replied: "Yes, because I saw it today.
"If we were terrible, couldn’t pass the ball and couldn’t create chances, then I would be worried.
"By the way we played today, I am very calm and just looking forward to prepare and make sure we win the next one."
