Premier League: Vito Mannone pleased with Sunderland's clean sheet at Burnley
Sunday 21 September 2014 15:07, UK
Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone was delighted with their first clean sheet but says the Black Cats had their sights on more than a 0-0 draw at Burnley.
The former Arsenal player said Gus Poyet's men had been targeting their first win of the season at Turf Moor despite knowing Burnley would not be an easy proposition.
“It’s been a tough game,” said Mannone. “We went close a few times but they did as well so it was very equal. We gave everything.
"The most important thing is a first clean sheet so we are happy about that but obviously we want to win these games so that’s the only disappointment – to go home without the three points."
The 26-year-old, who joined Sunderland from the Gunners in July last year, is aware the Black Cats need to pick up more points against the clubs who are likely to finish in the bottom half of the table.

“As a Premier League player, you need to adapt to every game. Coming to Turf Moor is difficult and no-one will come out of here with an easy game. We knew that.
"We played a top club last Saturday (Tottenham) when we got a good point but in this one we were looking for the three.
“We know our road. We know where we are heading to and we just need to improve game by game. Obviously we want that first win but I don’t think we have started badly.”
Next Saturday, Sunderland host Swansea, whose three wins already this season include the opening day 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
