Paris St Germain missed out on an opportunity to wrap up a second successive Ligue 1 title as they were held to a 1-1 draw at struggling Sochaux. Edinson Cavani's 16th goal of the season could easily have been the breakthrough that secured Le Championnat for Laurent Blanc's men but the hosts, who themselves were in desperate need of points at the other end of the table, hit back through Thiago Silva's own goal. A much deserved point for Herve Renard's men still leaves them in the bottom three, four points adrift of fourth-bottom Evian, but such a result will offer Les Lionceaux much-needed hope in the battle for survival. PSG will now need to wait until at least a week on Wednesday to potentially secure the title when they face Rennes in their next Ligue 1 game shortly after Monaco host Guingamp. With so much at stake, both sides made a high-tempo start to the game with Sochaux's Sebastian Corchia blazing over from a promising position before Ezequiel Lavezzi's powerful cross at the other end just failed to find a team-mate. Gregory van der Wiel was next to try his luck from the edge of the area but he failed to find the target for the visitors before Cavani's lob almost caught out Yohann Pele but the former Toulouse keeper did superbly to turn the ball over. Lucas Moura saw a header cleared off the line as PSG began to take charge and their pressure paid off in stunning fashion with the 25-minute mark fast approaching. Thiago Motta's perfectly-weighted ball found Cavani and the Uruguay international showed great control before dispatching a superb volley beyond Pele to offer hope of a title-winning party in Montbeliard. Laurent Blanc's side should have doubled their lead just a matter of minutes later but, after robbing Stoppila Sunzu, Lavezzi could only fire over the bar before Sochaux were equally wasteful in front of goal on the stroke of half-time. Jordan Ayew cleverly turned a harmless cross into Sebastian Roudet's path but his first-time effort from 12 yards was kept out by the feet of Salvatore Sirigu. However, with little over 10 minutes played in the second half, Sochaux made the all-important breakthrough thanks to a large slice of fortune. Florian Marange's powerful delivery from the left was turned goalwards by Brazilian defender Alex but, despite saving on his own line, Sirigu could only push the ball against Thiago Silva who diverted the ball into his own net. Both sides continued to press for the winner but Sochaux keeper Pele was proving to be a stubborn last line of defence. Firstly, he made a superb double-save from Cavani before keeping Marco Verratti at bay with a fine stop after the Italian had been released by Van der Wiel. The visitors were not having it all their own way, though, as Ayew somehow missed the target from just a few yards out before Cedric Bakambu just failed to get a telling touch on the Ghana international's delivery minutes later.
