Chile became the third team from South America to secure World Cup qualification with victory away to Colombia.
Valdivia the hero as Chile become third South Americans to qualify
Chile have secured their first appearance in a World Cup finals since France '98 following a 4-2 away win over Colombia.
Midfielder Jorge Valdivia was the star of the show as he came off the bench to score one goal and help create the other three.
Fabian Orellana scored twice with Waldo Ponce also on target for Chile, who had to come from behind after Arturo Vidal's own goal gave the home side the lead. Giovanni Moreno scored a second for Colombia, but their hopes of making it to South Africa are over.
The victory lifted Chile five points clear of fourth-placed Argentina in the South American standings with just one game to play.
It was Colombia, though, who started brightly and they took the lead in the 12th minute when a mistake from Chile keeper Claudio Bravo allowed Jackson Martinez a shot on goal and, in trying to clear the ball, defender Vidal put through his own net.
Marcelo Bielsa's side reacted and began to create chances, but the turning point came in the 31st minute when Valdivia replaced Matias Fernandez.
Headed home
Three minutes after his introduction his free-kick was headed home by Ponce.
And just a minute later Valdivia laid on a great pass to Fabian Orellana, who crossed for Humberto Suazo to head home Chile's second.
Chile continued to go forward and they went close to extending their lead before half-time.
But Colombia came out for the second half in search of an equaliser and they found one in the 62nd minute through Moreno.
The hosts were level for just nine minutes, though, as Orellana set up Valdivia to make it 3-2 for the visitors.
And the substitute rounded of a fine individual performance in the 78th minute when he led a counter-attack which resulted in Orellana scoring a fourth to ensure Chile's place at the World Cup.
