Baggies boss looking to build on home wins against City and Spurs

Tony Mowbray believes West Brom can push on up the Premier League table after controversially edging out Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at the Hawthorns on Sunday. The visitors had looked to be holding on for a point despite playing out the majority of the match with 10 men following Benoit Assou-Ekotto's red card. But Roman Bednar's controversial opening goal, following a shove on Michael Dawson, set up the victory and Craig Beattie added a second in injury-time. Regardless of the manner of the victory, the win takes the Baggies off the bottom of the table and Mowbray knows home form will be crucial in his side staying up. "To beat Manchester City and Tottenham in consecutive home games is a big lift and it will hopefully give the team the belief as the season moves on that we can survive," he said. "I think there is a good run of games for us and if you look at the table there are games in there, particularly at home, in the second half of the season that you should be targeting to win. "If we can get results like we have the last two weekends at home we should accumulate enough points, but when those days come along we need to be at it."

Admission

Harry Redknapp launched a scathing attack on the referee after the game and the Albion boss can understand his counterpart's frustration. "I have no comment on the referee," Mowbray said. "Some games as a coach you sit there and have thoughts but I've not been as brave as Harry and said anything. "I think we all abide by the officials. We agree with some decisions, we don't agree with others. Some of them are crucial decisions and some are niggly little fouls. "The bottom line is you hope to get the big ones right. I was very surprised when a red card was given but the referee saw it was and you have to live with that. "If I thought there was a push [on Dawson] I would be sitting here saying I thought we got away with it today but I didn't see any pushes." The Baggies have a break from action in the league next though as they take on Peterborough in the FA Cup third round before a tough trip away to Midlands rivals Aston Villa.
