Naby Keita, who will join Liverpool next summer, was sent off for the third time in seven games as RB Leipzig lost to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Liverpool agreed a club-record deal to meet Keita's £48m release clause in August which would see the 22-year-old remain at RB Leipzig for this season.
Keita's form and discipline has come under scrutiny since then, though, and the midfielder was once again sent off in the German Cup defeat to Bayern after he was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Robert Lewandowski early in the second half.
The subsequent red card came just weeks after he was sent off on international duty for Guinea in a World Cup qualifier against Tunisia at the start of October, while Keita also saw red for RB Leipzig against Borussia Monchengladbach last month.
Emil Forsberg's penalty did give RB Leipzig the lead against Bayern following Keita's dismissal, but Thiago Alacantara's equaliser took the game to extra time, before the Bundesliga champions ran out 5-4 winners on penalties.
