Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool will have to negate the threat of Southampton's in-form striker, Graziano Pelle, when the two clubs meet this weekend.
Liverpool face Ronald Koeman's side at Anfield on Sunday in Klopp's first home Premier League fixture as manager.
Southampton have made an impressive start to the season and Klopp admits his side will need to combat the Italian striker's threat up front.
"We have started analysing Southampton, I know much more about them. I saw the game against Chelsea," Klopp said.
"We have to look at the players, but we know their strengths. They are well organised and try to press high with six players, so maybe you can find a way.
"We can play football, but if not we can play long balls - that's what they do. They want to play football and if not they have Pelle.
"He's a good striker, very physical and strong. They are in good shape. They were close to a victory against Leicester."
Klopp is still to settle on a preferred starting eleven but at one point played two strikers during the 1-1 Europa League draw with Rubin Kazan on Thursday, and the 48 year-old says he's happy to keep all options open when it comes to picking a formation.
"Of course it's an option," Klopp added. "If all the strikers are fit we have four and we have to think about how we take that quality in our game.
"I don't know if we play with two on Sunday, but it's an option. Christian [Benteke] and Roberto [Firmino] had two training sessions with the team, usually it's too early but they did well.
"Christian was unlucky with the post, Roberto became better within the game. Two important options for Sunday."
Klopp is still to taste victory as Liverpool manager, having also drawn his opening game against Tottenham 0-0 last weekend.
However, the former Borussia Dortmund boss has urged fans to give him enough time to implement his ideas.
"I didn't expect we would run through the league from the moment I started," added Klopp.
"This league is too strong. But I have seen many things, I'm not sure what was there before but I saw many good things.
"It's not easy to compare, but in my first season in Dortmund we had 15 draws, if you want it's a half win. You don't lose. We have to get more stable.
"It's only important that you make the right decisions at the right moments. They have the quality to finish and create chances. We did that against a very deep defending opponent."
