Leicester 2016/17 season preview: Five questions

Can Leicester City defend the Premier League trophy in 2016/17?

As we preview the new Premier League season, we pick out five questions for Leicester.

What have they done in the transfer market?

Premier League champions Leicester have been busy improving their squad as they prepare for the challenge of following up last season's heroics. They've also had to deal with the loss of key midfielder N'Golo Kante and continued speculation over star player Riyad Mahrez.

Nampalys Mendy has arrived for a record fee to fill the void left by Kante, although that record was subsequently surpassed by the signing of forward Ahmed Musa. With Luis Hernandez and Ron-Robert Zieler also brought in, Leicester have strengthened.

What does the manager say?

"If at the start of last season the bookmakers had us down as 5000/1 shots, then this time we start at 6000/1. Our objective to start with is to reach 40 points and stay up. Then, once we've reached that objective, we can raise the bar … Maybe we can win one of the five trophies: Community Shield, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League."

What's the pundit verdict?

Alan Smith says: "I think everybody within the club will recognise that it will be nigh on impossible to get close to what they did last year. But listen, I think for them there is no pressure on them, it is just a fantastic adventure, and nobody is expecting them to pull up major trees are they, so they will go at it with no fear. If they can finish in a top-half position, it will have been a great way to follow up that title campaign."

What's your prediction?

There's no repeat of the 5000/1 offer this season with Leicester priced at 25/1 with Sky Bet to retain their Premier League title. They are 5/1 to finish in the top four with Jamie Vardy available at 14/1 to be the Premier League's top goalscorer.
