Graeme Souness says Kevin De Bruyne is "destined to be a star" following his man-of-the-match performance in Manchester City's win over Manchester United.
De Bruyne scored the opening goal of the game in the 2-1 win and was a nuisance throughout as Pep Guardiola's side dealt the first blow in the title race at Old Trafford.
The Belgian has made an impressive start to the campaign after injury disrupted his first season in the Premier League, and Souness says the former Chelsea and Wolfsburg man "has everything".
Souness told Sky Sports: "I think it was a surprise for everyone when he was allowed to leave Chelsea, then he goes to the Bundesliga and he's a star there.
"I think he's got everything, two great feet, he's quick, he's got a football brain, which is one of the most important things you can have.
"He is destined to be a star. He'll score goals, create goals, and he's playing in that position where a centre-half doesn't want to go into.
"He was getting himself in between Fellaini and the centre-backs, but a better defensive midfielder may have stopped him.
"But he was fabulous, and he suits the team with their style to the ground."
The 25-year-old Belgian started only 22 league games for City in 2015/16 following his move from Wolfsburg last summer, hampered by a knee injury picked up in February.
But De Bruyne was superb in the No 10 role for City on Saturday, and Jamie Carragher believes he could go on to become one of the best foreign imports in Premier League history.
"He was the best player on the pitch. I think we're talking about a player who could go on to become one of the best-ever foreign players in the Premier League.
"Last season, we saw more than just glimpses, he looked like he was on the verge of becoming one of the best players in the Premier League last year before injury.
"Looking at him this season, he's going to be difficult to stop. Over the next four or five years if he produces regularly like he did today, we could be talking about him among some of the greats we've seen in Premier League history."
