Ten-man Oxford progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup with a routine 3-0 win over Newport at Rodney Parade.
An own goal from Mickey Demetriou, a stunning strike from Shandon Baptiste and a late goal from Gavin Whyte was enough to eliminate Michael Flynn's side, despite Jamie Hanson's late red card.
The visitors opened the scoring inside two minutes when Demetriou sliced the ball into his own net after a wicked cross by Baptiste.
Oxford rallied forward from the restart and doubled their lead when Baptiste's powerful shot from 30 yards found the back of the net for his first senior goal.
Newport fought their way back into the game and came close when Jamille Matt's shot was acrobatically saved by Jonathan Mitchell.
The home side were more threatening in the second half with a Tyreeq Bakinson shot grazing the crossbar.
Hanson was then given his marching orders following a dangerous tackle on Antoine Semenyo.
However, despite the numerical disadvantage, Whyte rubbed salt into Newport's wounds when he connected with Luke Garbutt's cross in added time.
