The FA board has confirmed its support for chief executive Martin Glenn, following a scheduled meeting where the dismissal of Mark Sampson as England Women's manager was discussed.

Glenn faced questions over his handling of the Sampson dismissal on Monday at Wembley Stadium, in particular why it took so long to sack the 34-year-old in relation to allegations from 2014 of "inappropriate and unacceptable" behaviour while he was the head coach at Bristol Academy.

The FA board say they are confident the correct procedures are in place for future appointments after the sacking of Mark Sampson

In a statement, the FA said: "A number of questions were raised around the historic processes which the board has asked the executive to look into further with the appropriate external legal support.

"The board is confident that, consistent with the substantial positive change under the leadership of (chairman) Greg Clarke and Martin Glenn, the right procedures are in place to prevent a similar issue arising now or in the future.
