Steven Davies headed a late equaliser to help Blackpool to a 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic in their Sky Bet Championship clash at The Valley on Saturday.

Having come to the end of a 10-match unbeaten run in their last home game, a last-second defeat to Ipswich Town, Charlton started slowly, allowing Chris Eagles to poke Blackpool ahead.

Charlton's first-half pressure eventually resulted in an equalizer through Yoni Buyens' penalty before Cousins curled a beautiful effort past Joe Lewis soon after the break.

But the visitors found a dramatic equaliser when Davies headed a free-kick past young Charlton keeper Nick Pope to extend Blackpool's unbeaten run to four games.

Charlton went into the game searching for just their second win in seven games, a run that has seen them slip into mid table after a promising start to the season. Meanwhile, bottom-club Blackpool were enjoying a mini-revival under Lee Clark and came to South London with a three-match unbeaten run - highlighted by last weekend's 1-0 victory over Birmingham.

The Addicks started the game without injured captain Johnnie Jackson and the creative Francis Coquelin, recalled by parent club Arsenal just 24 hours before kick off, in the centre of the park.

And in the opening stages it was the visiting five-man midfield who created the best chances.

Jacob Murphy's early free-kick forced a fine diving save from Pope, minutes before he stopped a routine drive from Eagles.

Bob Peeters's Charlton grew in confidence, passing the ball patiently, but were almost caught on the counter-attack 15 minutes in. Eagles broke away down the left but the winger's clever cross curled just out of reach of Steven Davies as he slid into the six yard-box.

Eagles continued to look dangerous and won the corner which led to his 25-minute opener. Pope met Jamie O'Hara's cross with a poor punch, which fell straight to Nyron Nosworthy and his header at goal was directed past three Charlton defenders by Eagles on the line.

The hosts eventually made their superior possession count however, with their first real chance of the game after 38 minutes. Peter Clarke tripped Igor Vetokele, after Johann Gudmundsson's low cross caused havoc in the Blackpool box, and Buyens sent Joe Lewis the wrong way with his penalty.

Clark made early substitutions in the second half, to provide more power upfront for Blackpool bringing on Ishmael Miller and Nathan Delfouneso but it was the hosts who took the lead.

Jordan Cousins was left unchallenged outside the area on 55 minutes and curled a brilliant low shot into the corner that left Lewis helpless.

Blackpool struggled to create chances in response but with 15 minutes to go Davies' turn and shot from outside the box was well held by Pope.

But in the 89th minute Davies beat Pope to Tony McMahon's looping free-kick and headed into an open net.

Charlton could have won it in the dying seconds but Andre Bikey blazed over the bar from close-range after George Tucudean's cross.
