Jamie Proctor's solo effort secured Fleetwood a battling 1-0 victory at Barnsley.
The League 1 encounter started evenly enough at Oakwell, with Dan Crowley's curled effort from the edge of the box the pick of the early play.
However, it was Fleetwood who made the breakthrough when Proctor collected the ball inside the Barnsley half, before wrong-footing defender Marc Roberts and slotting past goalkeeper Nick Townsend.
The hosts came close to restoring parity before half-time, but Chris Maxwell's fingertip save was enough to stop Alfie Mawson's driven free-kick.
Fleetwood nearly doubled their lead after the break as Bobby Grant's effort from outside the area forcing a save from Townsend.
Barnsley also went close to scoring as Lloyd Isgrove's effort forced a block on the edge of the six-yard area, before Michael Smith's header failed to beat Maxwell from close range.
