Former Chelsea youth team boss and ex-Crawley Town head coach Dermot Drummy has died aged 56.

Drummy passed away on Monday morning with the news confirmed by his son Joe on social media later that night.

He was a former Arsenal trainee who forged a successful career as a player in non-league football before returning to the Gunners as a youth team coach just over 20 years ago.

Drummy worked with some of Arsenal's brightest talents including Ashley Cole and Jack Wilshere before taking over as Chelsea's academy boss in January 2009.

The following season he guided Chelsea to their first FA Youth Cup in 49 years before replacing Steve Holland as the club's reserve team manager in 2011.

He won the U21 Premier League title with Chelsea in 2014, leaving the club two years later to take up his first head coaching position in league football with Crawley Town.

Drummy left Crawley by mutual consent in May this year.

Swansea boss Paul Clement, who worked closely with Drummy at Chelsea, tweeted: "Shocked to hear of the death of my former colleague from Chelsea FC, Dermot Drummy.

"Very sad. Rest In Peace."
