England could be on course for a quarter-final date with hosts France and a semi-final showdown with Italy, Germany or Spain.
A 0-0 draw against Slovakia in Saint-Etienne saw Roy Hodgson's men finish second in Group B, their path to the final appearing far more treacherous.
Had they won their pool, England would have been facing a knockout game against Northern Ireland and a potential semi-final against Croatia
But should they get past tournament surprise package Iceland - who booked their England date thanks to Arnor Traustason's last-gasp winner against Austria - Hodgson's men will have to tussle with European heavyweights.
Here's England's updated route to the Euro 2016 final…
Last 16 - Monday, June 27, 8pm, Nice
England were set to face Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in the last 16 - until the smallest nation ever to qualify for a major tournament beat Austria 2-1 in dramatic style on Wednesday night to secure a second-place finish in Group F.
Supporters might have breathed a sigh of relief that Ronaldo no longer stands in their way - but Iceland have proved stubborn and spirited competitors in France.
Quarter-final - Sunday, July 3, 8pm, Paris
Should England make it through their first knockout game, hosts France may well be waiting in Paris. Didier Deschamps' side will play the third-placed team from Group C (Northern Ireland), D or E in Lyon on Sunday June 26, the day before England's own last-16 tie.
Semi-final - Thursday, July 7, 8pm, Marseille
If England make it this far they will have matched their best-ever European Championship performance - and their reward could be a clash with Italy, World Cup holders Germany or holders Spain - who finished a surprise second in Group D.
Italy are up against Spain in the last 16, while Germany face the third-placed team from Group A, B or F.
The winner of Italy or Spain could meet Germany in Bordeaux on Saturday, July 2, the day before England's potential game with France.
Final - Sunday, July 10, 8pm, Paris
Surely a date Hodgson has circled in his diary. But there's a long way to go before then...
