Russia will be without key midfielder Alan Dzagoev at the European Championships after he withdrew from the squad with a broken metatarsal.

Dzagoev suffered the injury playing for Russian champions CSKA Moscow in their 1-0 win against Rubin Kazan at the weekend.

Dzagoev is one of Russia's most influential and experienced players and is just one cap away from 50 appearances for his country.

A statement from the Russian Football Union said: "The player has undergone the medical examination which confirmed the fracture of the second instep bone. The injury does not let Dzagoev take part in the Euro 2016."

Russia head coach Leonid Slutskiy has called up Krasnodar's Dmitri Torbinski as Dzagoev's replacement in his 23-man squad.
