Ryan Bertrand will miss England's friendly against Germany in Berlin on Saturday after returning to Southampton for treatment.
The full-back picked up an injury in his side's 3-2 Premier League win over Liverpool last weekend and the England medical team have determined he will not be fit to face the world champions.
The Football Association said in a statement that manager Roy Hodgson would not calling up a replacement for Bertrand.
Bertrand made his international debut in a 2-1 friendly win over Italy in 2012 and has since earned a further six caps.
Tottenham's Danny Rose is the only other recognised left-back in England's squad for the friendlies with Germany on Saturday and The Netherlands on Wednesday.
Fitness permitting, the 25-year-old appears to be a certainty to make his international debut in Berlin on Saturday night.
England are currently St George's Park and depart for Berlin on Friday morning.
