Burnley 2016/17 season preview: Five questions

Sean Dyche has led Burnley to the Premier League for a second time

As we preview the new Premier League season, we pick out five questions for Burnley.

What have they done in the transfer market?

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has been busy picking up young players for bargain fees this summer, with teenagers Robbie Leitch and Jamie Thomas arriving from Motherwell and Bolton respectively. However, Thomas has already been loaned back out.

Dyche has also cherry-picked two of Charlton's best players in goalkeeper Nick Pope and Iceland international Johann Berg Gudmundsson but will this be enough to keep the Clarets in the top flight? Supporters will hope the spending's not over yet.

What does the manager say?

"It's a tough market. We have moved forward and other clubs have moved forward. But we know we have to add to the quality level. I have told the board the type of quality and the players we need. The chairman is working actively to try and get them over the line. It's down to him to find finance for the deals. But there are still those certain guidelines the club wants to work under."

Paul Merson says: "I like Burnley but they haven't invested enough and I'm interested to see if Andre Gray can step up from the Championship to the Premier League. We've seen centre-forwards struggle to step up in the past and it'll be interesting to see what they can do. They will have to work hard every week to get a result and that could take its toll. It will be tight at the bottom, though, and I don't see anyone getting cut adrift."

What's your prediction?

Burnley are 1000/1 with Sky Bet to lift the Premier League title and 250/1 to finish among the top four. Perhaps more pertinently, the Clarets are even money to be relegated and available at 4/5 to stay up. Andre Gray is a 66/1 shot to be the Premier League top scorer.
