Paul Merson believes Manchester United will miss out on the top four and a Champions League place due to a negative mind-set.
The former Arsenal midfielder has tipped his old side to finish second to Manchester City with Tottenham and Chelsea claiming the final two Champions League positions.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ, Merson explained the reasons for his selections.
"I think Liverpool are short, I think we saw that against Crystal Palace the other day. I think there's a lot of work to be done there still for Jurgen Klopp," he said.
"For me Man Utd go out not to lose a football match before they go out to win a match. I can see Man Utd drawing four games on the trot, I can see Chelsea winning six or seven [in a row] if they get it going.
"Chelsea are not a bad team, believe me. They were all right against Stoke, they played well. They will go out to win football matches, Man Utd go out not to lose.
"If you win six on the trot and Man Utd win one in six but don't lose, they've eaten that gap up already.
"I think Man City will just pip Arsenal because I think their squad is a little bit bigger, but just. Then I think Tottenham and then I'd go Chelsea."
