Paul Tisdale's future at Exeter remains in doubt as he is yet to inform the club whether he will stay on as manager next season.
Coventry beat Exeter 3-1 in the Sky Bet League Two play-off final at Wembley to seal their first promotion in 51 years, as Tisdale endured final heartache for the second consecutive season.
Tisdale is the current longest-serving manager in English football with his tenure stretching 11 years and 11 months, however, he is yet to sign a contract offer which is on the table from the club.
"We'll have to see, it's not a yes or a no," he said.
"There's an offer there for me but I'm within my rights not to sign that and wait for the end of the season.
"It's a disappointing way to finish the season so it's probably not the right time to discuss my future."
Tisdale has twice won promotion with Exeter during his prolonged spell at the club.
However, his relationship with Exeter fans has been strained in recent months, with calls for him to resign after a 3-1 defeat at Stevenage in April. He has been strongly linked with the MK Dons vacancy.
When asked if a section of supporters have taken him for granted, he said: "Possibly. I think you can take anything for granted.
"We start every year with investment from the supporters which is around £100,000 and everything else we have to create ourselves. We've got incredibly good value from our squad and we have to sell just to keep the thing moving forward.
"I think there will be discussions soon if the club does want to elevate its statute, it can't just rely on me bringing players through all the time because you can't guarantee an Ethan Ampadu or someone you can sell.
"The level of work long term as well as short term to get success on the pitch and create enough to generate enough income is a very difficult balance to have.
"Maybe it's been taken for granted how difficult it is - maybe someone else will try it one day and know how difficult it is."
