The victory took the Shrimps above the Silkmen in the table and eight points clear of bottom club Stevenage.

In a game dominated by the wind, the home side made the most of it in the first half and took the lead on 18 minutes. Veteran midfielder Toumani Diagouraga chose the perfect time to score his first goal for the club when he side-footed home a loose ball from 12 yards out.

Derek Adams' side doubled their advantage after 35 minutes when Aaron Wildig turned sharply on the edge of the box and drilled in a shot that took a wicked deflection to beat the unlucky Jonathan Mitchell.

John O'Sullivan almost made it three two minutes later with a right-foot shot that fizzed inches wide of the post with Mitchell beaten.

With the wind behind them, Macclesfield dominated possession in the second half but struggled to create any clear chances.
