Former Newcastle, Sunderland and Cardiff striker Michael Chopra has revealed he is open to joining an English club following his participation in the recent Indian Super League.
Free-agent Chopra is expected to play in next year’s ISL but admits he would consider an offer to return to England in the short-term.
“I want to get back playing football as quick as possible especially as I’ve just come back from playing in some big games in India including semi-finals and the final,” he told Sky Sports.
“I’m sure people are aware of what I did out there and with the transfer window now open, I have the chance to play in England again and hopefully there will be clubs looking at me here and around the world.
“I’d also consider playing abroad again because I’ve proved I’m up for the challenge. If that means playing in a new country, in a new league and adjusting to that lifestyle then so be it because you have to do what’s right for your career.
“But I’ve played in the Championship for most of my career and I know I can still do a job for a club in that division if called upon.”
Chopra, who has also had spells with Watford, Blackpool, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich, is certain he can add to his tally of 114 goals in English football.
“I’ll always create chances and score goals. It’s now just down to the right club and the right person giving me the chance to do that,” he said. “Once I get that chance I’ll show people what can I do.
“I haven’t lost ability and like any good striker I’m not short on confidence. That is something I have continued work on throughout my career so I know when the chances come along I’ll hit the target, and more often than not, they will go in.”
