Brazil, Uruguay and Ecuador claim World Cup qualifying victories

Douglas Costa, Renato Augusto and Filipe Luis scored as Brazil beat Peru 3-0 in their World Cup qualifying match at Salvador's Arena Fonte Nova.

Costa opened the scoring for Brazil midway through the first half when he finished off Willian's cross from close range.

Augusto doubled Brazil's advantage 12 minutes into the second half when he side-footed in his first international goal.

And, after Neymar had a goal ruled out for offside, Filipe Luis tapped in the third 13 minutes from time after Costa's shot had been parried by Peru goalkeeper Diego Penny.

The win, Brazil's second in four qualifying matches, leaves them third in the race to win a spot at Russia 2018, five points behind Ecuador - who maintained their 100 per cent with a 3-1 defeat of Venezuela in Ciudad Guayana.

Fidel Martinez (15), Jefferson Montero (22) and Felipe Caicedo (60) scored for Ecuador, before Jozef Martinez replied for the hosts six minutes from time.

Uruguay were convincing 3-0 conquerors of Chile, thanks to goals from Diego Godin (23), Maximiliano Pereira (61) and Alvaro Pereira (63). Jorge Valdivia's last-minute red card capped a bad night for the visitors in Montevideo.

Dario Lezcano and Lucas Barrios scored the goals which enabled Paraguay to come from behind and beat Bolivia in Asuncion.

The visitors had led through Yasmani Duk's goal on the hour but they found themselves 2-1 down five minutes later and Paraguay held on despite having Pablo Aguilar sent off four minutes from time after he received his second yellow card.

Lucas Biglia's 20th-minute goal was enough to give Argentina victory over Colombia in Barranquilla, their first after three draws.
