Highlights from the MLS as Wayne Rooney's stunning free-kick gives DC United the win over Columbus Crew

Wayne Rooney's free-kick was the only goal of the game as DC United beat Columbus Crew 1-0 on Wednesday night.

DC United ended an 11-game winless run away at Columbus, earning their first victory on the ground since August 18 2007.

Rooney sent a free kick from just outside the box through a gap in the wall for his fifth goal of the season. It was his fourth set-piece goal in his brief MLS career to date.

Hamid kicked away Justin Meram's close-range shot from a tight angle in the 54th minute, and Columbus veteran Federico Higuan saw a free-kick sail over moments later, but Rooney's goal proved enough for victory.

Two goals in two minutes pulled Seattle back from the jaws of defeat to earn a 2-2 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes.

Shea Salinas scored a goal either side of half-time to put the Earthquakes in full control before the comeback.

LA Galaxy and Minnesota United played out an uneventful goalless draw to end the hosts' five-game winning streak.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic headed a cross just wide in the 24th minute, and Galaxy goalkeeper David Bingham came out of his area to deny Angelo Rodriguez on the break on the hour mark.

Montreal Impact put their goalscoring woes behind them to beat New England Revolution 3-0 thanks to a trio of late goals.

Montreal had gone three games without scoring coming into the match, and looked headed for a fourth until Shamit Shome opened the scoring 11 minutes from time, when goalkeeper Cody Cropper fumbled Daniel Lovitz's free-kick.

Anthony Jackson-Hamel made it two soon after, and added a another in injury time to wrap up victory.
