Team news

On-loan Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson will miss out against his parent club Manchester United.

The 22-year-old is on loan at Bramall Lane from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side and the terms of the agreement do not allow him to play so Simon Moore is in line for a Premier League debut.

John Egan is a doubt after the defender suffered a clash of heads with Andreas Cornelius during the Republic of Ireland's 1-1 draw with Denmark on Monday.

Axel Tuanzebe, Luke Shaw and Nemanja Matic are available again for Manchester United, though boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted all three need to build up their match fitness.

Marcos Rojo has joined Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba in the treatment room, while Diogo Dalot, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Eric Bailly remain a way off.

Pogba is stepping up his recovery from an ankle injury and Solskjaer remains hopeful the Frenchman will return before the year is out.

"He's out of a cast... he was in a cast for about for six or seven weeks - you do lose loads of muscle, so he's gradually now just stepping up, walking on the treadmill, biking with a free ankle. It'll still be a few weeks. We hope to see him in 2019, yeah."

Opta stats

  • After beating Manchester United 2-1 on the first ever day in Premier League history in August 1992, Sheffield United have lost each of their last five against the Red Devils in the top flight.
  • In all competitions, Manchester United have won their last seven meetings with Sheffield United, by an aggregate score of 14-1.
  • Sheffield United vs Manchester United is famous as being the fixture to produce the first ever Premier League goal - with Brian Deane netting for the Blades after five minutes in their meeting on 15th August 1992.
  • Since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, Manchester United have lost six of their 19 away Premier League games against promoted sides (W11 D2 L6) - just one fewer than they did in 62 such games with the Scotsman in charge (W36 D19 L7).
  • Sheffield United are unbeaten in their last five Premier League games (W2 D3), winning both home matches in that run. The Blades are looking to win three consecutive top-flight home games for the first time since August 1993.
  • Manchester United have won just one of their last 10 Premier League away games (D3 L6), and have conceded at least once in each of their last 11 on the road. The Red Devils haven't failed to keep a clean sheet in 12 consecutive top-flight away games since a run of 15 in the 1985-86 campaign.
  • Against Brighton last time out, Manchester United fielded the youngest starting XI in the Premier League so far this season (average age of 23y 350d). Indeed, only Bournemouth (25y 88d) have a younger average starting XI across the Premier League this season (25y 103d).
  • Sheffield United's John Lundstram has scored three goals in 12 Premier League appearances this season - as many goals as he'd scored in his previous 55 league matches combined. Lundstram's three goals this term is the joint-most he's ever scored in a single English league campaign (also three in 2017-18 and 2015-16).
  • All of Manchester United's Premier League goalscorers this season have been aged 23 and under, with Anthony Martial their oldest scorer so far (23y 326d vs Norwich). He's the youngest oldest-goalscorer for a club in the competition this season.
  • Marcus Rashford has scored five goals in his last five games in all competitions for Manchester United, and is looking to score in three consecutive games for the Red Devils for the first time since September 2017.

A look at some of the key stats surrounding this weekend's Premier League action, including Chelsea's trip to Man City and Jose Mourinho returning to the Premier League as Tottenham manager

Charlie Nicholas' prediction

Sheffield United are fifth and Manchester United sit in seventh. Who has more energy? Sheffield United. Who has more passion? Sheffield United. Manchester United have the better players but only when they play well.

I have been impressed with Sheffield United more recently as they have been scoring goals. They will be right in the face of Man United from the get-go so if they are good enough, they will need to show it and be together as a team.

I do feel that Man United will be vulnerable to this energy level as they can become moody, but they will get something from it nevertheless.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Mauricio Pochettino's departure from Tottenham doesn't put him under any more pressure at Old Trafford

Chris Wilder will have a feeling about what his side can achieve realistically, but if you said to him that from the first 12 games, your away record would be fabulous, they would have beaten Arsenal and drawn with Manchester United at home, he would have snapped your hand off. They probably expect to beat Man United at the moment, but I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will be ready for it.

It will be another feisty game. Sheffield United will go after and squeeze Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as much as they can.

The back three are very good at what they do but John Egan has been one of the players of the season. The others have been great but he is calm, aggressive when he needs to be and gets his team-mates into position - they are well-organised and drilled. For that reason, I think they will get a draw.
