Chelsea loanee Kenedy could make his Newcastle debut at home to Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The Brazilian says Rafa Benitez was one of the key reasons he decided to make the move north.

Kenedy hopes his spell with Newcastle will allow him to finally show his quality of a regular basis in the Premier League after little time on the pitch since joining Chelsea.

"I will do my best because it's a big opportunity. I want to grab this opportunity and all that comes with it," Kenedy said.

"I will do my best on the field and I hope I can help my colleagues to get the team out of this situation."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche admits Deadline Day coinciding with midweek Premier League fixtures is not ideal but is confident the club can be "flexible" after completing some business earlier in the month.

"I don't think it's perfect, I think last year was the same. We had a game on deadline day and I found out at half-time I think that we'd signed Robbie Brady so I don't think it's perfect by any means.

"But you've got to have a cut-off somewhere so when do they make a cut-off and for what reason, for what club and what given time?

"So it's just one of those things, but we've managed to get some business done early on which is good and if we have to flexible on the day that's the way it goes."

Team news

Kenedy will be hoping to make his debut for Newcastle having featured only twice in the Premier League since the start of last season.

Benitez will have virtually a full complement of players to pick from with Jesus Gamez (ankle) the only guaranteed absentee. Florian Lejeune is rated as doubtful with a foot problem although he has been back running this week.

Burnley look set to be without Steven Defour with the Belgium international set to see a specialist over a knee injury.

A minor groin problem has placed James Tarkowski's participation in doubt, but left-back Stephen Ward has returned to full training after missing Burnley's last eight games.

Dean Marney (knee), Jon Walters (knee), Chris Wood (knee), Robbie Brady (knee) and Tom Heaton (shoulder) all remain sidelined.

More positively for Burnley, Aaron Lennon is in line to make his debut having joined from Everton.

Opta stats

  • Newcastle United have won just one of their last eight league games against Burnley (D3 L4) - winning 3-0 in a second-tier clash in November 1982, thanks to goals from Chris Waddle, Kevin Keegan and Imre Varadi.
  • Burnley are winless in their last four away games against Newcastle (D2 L2), conceding exactly three goals in three of those matches.
  • The Magpies are winless in seven Premier League home games (D2 L5) - their longest such run in the competition since a run of eight ending in April 2009.
  • In those seven games, Newcastle have scored just three goals, failing to score on five occasions.
  • Only Southampton (11) are on a current longer winless run in the Premier League than Burnley (7).
  • Newcastle and Burnley have the joint-lowest scoring top scorer of Premier League clubs this season; Joselu leads the way for Newcastle and Sam Vokes for Burnley with just four goals each (Jay Rodriguez for West Brom, and Tammy Abraham/Jordan Ayew for Swansea also with four).
  • Dwight Gayle has been involved in four goals in four league games against Burnley (two goals, two assists).
  • Johann Berg Gudmundsson has been directly involved in six of Burnley's last 12 Premier League goals (1 goal, 5 assists), with his five assists being worth nine points to the Clarets.

Merson's prediction

This is another massive football match. Newcastle went out of the cup at the weekend so it's another year without a trophy. They'll be under pressure to bounce back against Burnley at St James' Park.

Burnley have hit a bit of a brick wall of late. Their results have started to level out after what was an unbelievable start to the season. However, I thought they were very unlucky against United and could have even sneaked a draw. With another performance like that, I'm backing them to sneak a win.

PAUL PREDICTS: 0-1

Betting

Newcastle are Sky Bet's 23/20 favourites for the victory with Burnley priced at 14/5 while the draw is a 2/1 chance.

Joselu heads the goalscorer market and is enhanced from 9/2 to 11/2 to net first in Sky Bet's Price Boosts, while Chris Wood is considered the visitors' main threat at 5/1 to break the deadlock.

The Magpies are currently 9/4 to face relegation while their visitors have been completely dismissed from the market.

Wednesday night's Premier League clashes make up the midweek Super 6 line-up, with the £1m still to be won.
