Burnley manager Sean Dyche is not in the running for the Aston Villa job, Sky Sports News HQ understands.
A number of leading bookmakers slashed the odds on Dyche succeeding Roberto Di Matteo at Villa Park on Tuesday afternoon, with the 45-year-old installed as the second favourite behind former Hull City manager Steve Bruce.
However, SSNHQ understand Dyche is keen to stay at Burnley and remain in the Premier League rather than drop back down to the Sky Bet Championship.
Villa owner Dr Tony Xia is understood to be considering the final shortlist of candidates, which is thought to include Bruce and interim boss Steve Clarke.
Bruce revealed on Goals on Sunday that he had held preliminary discussions with Villa over their vacant managerial position, while Clarke will be in the dugout for Saturday's match against Wolves, live on Sky Sports 1 HD.
Di Matteo was sacked as Villa manager last week following their poor start to the new season, having won only one of his 12 matches in charge.
A 2-0 defeat away at Preston on October 1 proved to be Di Matteo's final match at the helm, with the Italian leaving Villa 19th in the Championship and just two points above the relegation zone.
