Gareth Southgate will name his first England squad at around 8.15pm this evening with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford set for a recall.
Southgate has been placed in temporary charge of the Three Lions after a tumultuous week in which Sam Allardyce was forced out of his role as England boss after the Daily Telegraph released secretly-filmed footage of him discussing a variety of subjects, including circumventing transfer rules.
Southgate has been promoted from the England U21s on an interim basis for the final four matches of 2016 and on Sunday will name his 23-man squad for the World Cup Qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.
And Rashford, who went to Euro 2016 but was left out of Allardyce's sole game in charge, appears certain to be involved, having been omitted from the England U21 squad which was announced on Thursday.
The 18-year-old scored a hat-trick for England U21s under Southgate during the last international break and has found the net in three of his last four games for United.
Everton's attacking midfielder Ross Barkley could also return, having been a surprising omission from Allardyce's squad.
Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andros Townsend of Crystal Palace are pushing for recalls too while Jack Wilshere, who is on loan at Bournemouth, is returning to form and fitness and could be in contention.
However, Southgate will be without Tottenham striker Harry Kane, Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph, Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland and Liverpool's attacking midfielder Adam Lallana, who scored the late winner in Slovakia under Allardyce but limped off during the Reds' win at Swansea on Saturday.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: "In this moment, he has no chance for the national team, but hopefully 15 or 16 days should be enough to bring him back on the pitch."
Eric Dier and Danny Rose of Spurs have a chance to prove their fitness on Sunday, as does United's Luke Shaw.
Southgate has already announced that Wayne Rooney will continue as captain.
