Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler says nobody has influenced football more than Johan Cruyff in the last 70 years.
The Dutch legend, who played for Ajax, Barcelona and the Netherlands during a 19-year playing career, died on Thursday at the age of 68 after a long battle with lung cancer.
He guided his country to the World Cup final in 1974 - a game which Tyler commentated on - but Sky Sports' 'Voice of Football' insists his greatest achievement was changing the philosophy of Barcelona as a player between 1973 and 1978 and as manager from 1988 to 1996.
"We still marvel at what Barcelona do," he told Sky Sports News HQ.
"They are the best club side in the world, I think everyone would agree, at the moment. They have been, off and on, for a couple of decades.
"He really started all that. He was the one who put the philosophy in place. He brought the Dutch way of playing to Spain and married the two styles together.
"His team, when he was manager, were terrific and those who followed him, like Pep Guardiola and the players who graced his team, really owe a huge debt to Johan Cruyff.
"We all do as football lovers. He brought so much pleasure to us all as a player and as an influence to the game.
"As somebody who has influenced the game in my lifetime, he would be number one."
