Martin's starting stats

It was a great experience to be commentating when Jamie Vardy set his Premier League record on Saturday for scoring in 11 consecutive matches. My congratulations go to him.

His first Premier League goal was against Manchester United in the 5-3 win last season. After that he failed to score in his next 21 Premier League games - but he has scored 18 in the 24 after that.

Interestingly, Riyad Mahrez and Vardy have 21 goals between them this season, while Manchester United have just 20. Leicester also kept up their record of scoring in all 17 games this season.

Saturday was Manchester United's 900th Premier League game. Their record is W575, D189, L136 Pts1914. I was in the commentary box with Gary Neville, who played in exactly 400 of the 900. You can read my thoughts on his role at Valencia here.

Ashley Young made his 100th Man Utd Premier League appearance, Daley Blind made his 50th Man Utd appearance and Wayne Rooney made his 499th Man Utd appearance with his 500th coming up at the weekend.

The game was also Anthony Martial's last as a teenager. He will be 20 this Saturday.

Who have been awarded the most penalties in Premier League history? Surely Man Utd? Pete, St Helens

MARTIN SAYS: Liverpool have in fact been awarded more Premier League penalties than any other side.

Sunday's penalty against Swansea, converted by James Milner, was their 135th, which puts them ahead of Arsenal (126), Manchester United (121), Chelsea (116), Newcastle (111), Everton (104), Tottenham (101) and Aston Villa (96).

The Anfield side have been awarded more, but their success rate of 76.3 per cent (103 penalties scored) is fourth-highest of the seven clubs to have taken more than 100 penalties in Premier League history.

Penalty conversion rate in Premier League history (over 100 pens)

Team Pens taken Pens scored Conversion %
Chelsea 116 101 87.1
Newcastle 111 89 80.2
Everton 104 80 76.7
Liverpool 135 103 76.3
Manchester United 121 92 76
Arsenal 126 94 74.6
Tottenham 101 72 71.3

Chelsea top that mini-league with 101 out of 116 (87.1 per cent), helped no end by the likes of Frank Lampard, Dennis Wise and Eden Hazard, followed by Newcastle's 89 in 111 (80.2 per cent) and Everton's 80 in 104 (76.9 per cent).

Manchester United (92 in 121 - 76 per cent), Arsenal (94 in 126 - 74.6 per cent) and Tottenham (72 in 101 - 71.3 per cent) have worse conversion records than Liverpool.

The 100 club

Alan Pardew earned his 100th win as a Premier League manager on Saturday. Who has got to 100 Premier League wins in the quickest time? Ben, Croydon

MARTIN SAYS: Palace's 5-1 win over Newcastle brought Pardew into the century club. He took 261 games to get there, which means he slips into the top 10 of managers to reach 100 wins in the fewest games.

Pardew is ahead of the likes of Martin O'Neill (270), George Graham (280), Mark Hughes (282) and Harry Redknapp (290) in the list, which is topped by Jose Mourinho (142), Sir Alex Ferguson (179) and Arsene Wenger (179).

The 54-year-old is also the second-fastest Englishman to reach 100 Premier League wins behind Kevin Keegan (209), with three Scots and two Frenchman in the top 10.

Lay it on a plate

Everton's Ross Barkley celebrates scoring their third goal during the Barclays Premier League match at Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth
Image: Everton's Ross Barkley has played a part in scoring or assisting 10 goals this season

How many goals has Ross Barkley been involved in this season (goals and assists)? Has any other midfielder got more? Toby, Worcester

MARTIN SAYS: Barkley has six goals and five assists - and only two midfielders (according to Opta's definition of 'midfielder') have contributed to more Premier League goals this season.

Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez's seven goals and six assists (involved in 13 goals) put him top alongside the two goals and 11 assists of Mesut Ozil.

Apart from Barkley, no other English midfielder makes the top 10 of goals/assists combined this season.

Kevin De Bruyne (four goals, six assists) has played a part in 10 goals for Manchester City, while Sadio Mane (three goals, five assists), Philippe Coutinho (five goals, three assists), Dimitri Payet (five goals, three assists) and Georginio Wijnaldum (six goals, two assists) have all been involved in eight.

Christian Eriksen (two goals, five assists), Juan Mata (four goals, three assists), David Silva (one goal, six assists) and Andre Ayew (six goals, one assists) have all contributed seven.

Anyone's title

Image: Leicester and Manchester City sit top of the Premier League with 29 points from 14 games

The Premier League seems pretty open this season… Where does Man City and Leicester City's 29-points rank after 14 games, and what is the lowest number of points a title-winning side has had after 14 games? Katie, London

MARTIN SAYS: Manchester United's 21-point tally from 14 games in the 1992/93 season had them seventh, six points off then-leaders Blackburn, but Sir Alex Ferguson's side eventually won the title come May.

That still stands as the lowest points tally from 14 games to go on and win the title, so there is some hope for the likes of Everton (21 points), West Ham and Crystal Palace (both 22 points) and Liverpool (23 points) in this most unpredictable of seasons.

However, that was a 42-game season so they had more matches in which to make up the difference. In a 38-game season, the lowest tally from an eventual champion is the 23 points recorded by Manchester United in both 1996/97 and 2002/03.

Manchester City and Leicester City's 29 points from the first 14 games is the joint fourth-lowest tally for a team topping the table after 14 games.

Only Blackburn in 1992/93 (27), Man Utd in 1997/98 (28) and Chelsea in 2010/11 (28) had fewer.

Man City's haul of 38 in 2011/12 is the most after 14 matches.
