Sergio Ramos wants Spain fans to stop booing Gerard Pique and wants to see less time focused around the defender's political views.
Pique was one again the subject of booing and whistling from Spanish fans during Friday's 2-0 win over Slovakia, forcing head coach Vincente Del Bosque to once again defend his performance.
The Barcelona defender, who has previously appeared to support Catalan independence, has proven unpopular with some Spain fans, but Ramos feels it's time to stop discussing Pique's views off the pitch.
"We all know what Pique is like, we can't change that now and there's no point getting into whether he's always acted the right way in the last few years," Ramos told a pre-match press conference on Monday.
"We're all Spanish here and we're representing a country. Booing doesn't do anyone good.
"We're here to represent our country, Spain, and we have to pull together. Pique gives his all on the pitch.
"We come to the national team to do our best and the less we talk about this subject, the better, because otherwise we will end up encouraging it to happen again."
The defending European champions can all-but secure qualification to next year's finals with victory in Macedonia on Tuesday evening, with Spain currently top of Group C on goal difference with two matches remaining.
David Silva and Pedro were on the score sheet in Spain's 5-1 win when the two teams met earlier in the campaign, with Ramos, who opened the scoring that day, hoping to see his team extend their winning run to four matches in Skopje.
"We want to keep winning," the Real Madrid captain added. "Those of us who experienced the good times are out to bring them back".
