Martin O'Neill says Republic of Ireland "will go in fighting" against Wales following their 2-0 win over Moldova.
Republic of Ireland need to beat Wales in their clash in Cardiff on Monday night - live on Sky Sports Football - if they are to secure at least a play-off spot for the 2018 World Cup.
A comfortable 2-0 victory over Moldova has made sure World Cup qualification is in their hands, and O'Neill insists his team will give it everything to secure the victory they require at the Cardiff City Stadium.
He told Sky Sports: "It [the scenario ] reminds me of last year in the Euros when we went to Lille having to beat Italy to qualify for the last 16.
"It's all on the line. We'll go for it [against Cardiff on Monday] and we shouldn't die wondering.
"There will be a few people looking around at the same scenario. Austria winning the game tonight [against Serbia] is no surprise. They got lost in this group at some stage but it's been very tight.
"Any team who can finish ahead of Serbia will win the group so we're in there fighting, we've got a chance so let's go for it."
Daryl Murphy, who scored both goals against Moldova, and Callum O'Dowda impressed in place of suspended duo Robbie Brady and James McClean on the flanks.
But O'Neill refused to be drawn on who will lead the Republic line against Wales on Monday night.
He added: "You're talking about two decent players coming back.
"You've got McClean who has been fantastic. Brady is also a very good player. You throw these two [O'Dowda and Murphy] into the equation so we'll see.
"But we'll go there and we know what we have to do - get a win in Cardiff."
