Republic of Ireland midfielder Harry Arter was ruled out of squad contention for Euro 2016 after suffering a thigh injury in training on Monday.
The 26-year-old Bournemouth star had to be sent home from the team's training camp in Cork for further treatment and will sit out the tournament in France as a result.
Arter played 82 minutes for the Republic in their 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in a friendly in Dublin last Friday.
It was only his second senior cap for his country and came almost a year after he gained his first in a friendly against England.
Injuries limited Arter to just 22 appearances for Bournemouth last season, but he showed no sign of rustiness against the Dutch and was hoping he had done enough to impress manager Martin O'Neill.
"I've worked hard for the past two months to try and get my body as good as it can get and I was pleased out there," he said after the game against the Dutch.
Later on Tuesday, O'Neill named his 23-man Euro 2016 squad following the 2-1 defeat to Belarus in Cork, with goalkeeper David Forde, midfielders Darron Gibson, Eunan O'Kane and Callum O'Dowda, and striker David McGoldrick also missing out.
