Northern Ireland's Gavin Whyte had a golden opportunity to equalise

Gavin Whyte will never forget his dream introduction to international football last month, but he had a moment to forget on Monday.

The Oxford United forward scored with his first touch for Northern Ireland, 106 seconds after coming off the bench during the 3-0 win over Israel at Windsor Park.

But Whyte was guilty of a glaring miss as Northern Ireland slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, their third straight loss in the UEFA Nations League.

The 22-year-old replaced Oliver Norwood after 58 minutes at the Grbavica Stadium - but just seven minutes later, he struck the post when Ervin Zukanovic's goal-line clearance fell at his feet.

Michael O'Neill's side were made to rue the missed opportunity as Edin Dzeko doubled his account for the evening to put the contest to bed, with Northern Ireland now on the verge of relegation to League C.
