New Wales boss Ryan Giggs has endorsed the UEFA Nations League which gets underway later this year.
UEFA has created the Nations League to replace friendlies between European nations, which often generate little interest among coaches, fans and broadcasters.
With countries divided into different tiers, based on past results, the format guarantees teams of similar ability will play each other more often.
Giggs, who was unveiled as Wales' boss earlier this month, says he is relishing the new competition which will be staged every two years.
He told Sky Sports News: "It'll be tough but that's the nature of this new competition.
"You pit your wits against teams of similar quality. Tough but exciting as well.
"And there will now be something on every game. You have the chance to qualify for the Euros, and there will be promotion and relegation as well.
"Every game will have something on it. So it's good for the fans and players' stimulation."
