Portugal v Wales: Bale or Ronaldo? Paul Merson and Phil Thompson pick their Six-a-Side teams

Fantasy Six-a-Side

Paul Merson and Phil Thompson go head-to-head in the penultimate round of their Euro 2016 Sky Sports Fantasy Six-a-Side challenge as they look to land £1,000 for their charity of choice - but have they plumped for Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo?

The Fantasy Football Club's Merse has nominated Children with Cancer while Thommo, who won the Fantasy Six-a-Side Premier League pundit competition, is looking to raise money for Nugent Care.

Thommo just needs to triumph on Wednesday night to seal a series victory, having battled back from a 2-0 deficit to lead 3-2 with just two games remaining.

The Liverpool legend proved the value of keeping track of team news in the last round, switching out the injured Jan Vertonghen for opening goalscorer Radja Nainggolan, a change which has left him on the brink of cementing his status as the Soccer Saturday Fantasy Six-a-Side king.

Here are who the two pundits have selected for the latest round, Portugal v Wales...

MERSE'S TEAM

Elite Player: Gareth Bale - He's done much better than Cristiano Ronaldo in this tournament. He's the talisman and he'll take every free-kick, which have been a lot better than Ronaldo's efforts.

Joe Allen - He gets on the ball, passes it and has been playing well.

Hal Robson-Kanu - He'll probably be signing for Real Madrid next week after that goal against Belgium! Everybody at Reading must be a bit confused.

Renato Sanches celebrates his equaliser for Portugal

Renato Sanches - He's been outstanding. I reckon in five years' time, he will be the best player in the world, he's that good.

Andre Gomes - I like him, he's a decent player and he's been playing well.

Wayne Hennessey - I do fancy Wales, but they will have to make some saves along the way. Ronaldo shoots from everywhere, even when he has a free-kick he shoots from 40 yards. If it goes the way I think it will go and Wales win 2-1, they will be getting bombarded at the end of the match.

THOMMO'S TEAM

Elite Player: Gareth Bale - I wouldn't say Bale has actually been world class but it's how he carries himself and how the players react to him is worth more to his side than Ronaldo and his strops. I think Wales deserve to be favourites and think Bale will fire them to victory.

Joe Allen - I've had him in for each of the three times Wales have been involved in the game and he's served me well. He completes passes and is going to be even more important with Aaron Ramsey suspended.

Joe Ledley - The Wales central-midfield are going to be busy, making tackles, interceptions and passes and will be crucial in ensuring Bale sees more of the ball than Ronaldo.

Pepe is a rock in the Portuguese defence

Pepe - He's a threat from set-pieces and he'll be starting any build-up from the back. However, his antics make me as a defender feel uncomfortable. He's like a big baby, but still gets in my team!

William Carvalho - He'll sit and see a lot of the ball, completing passes all evening, so is a safe pick.

Renato Sanches - I think he drifted out of the game a bit against Poland. At 18 years of age you're not expecting him dominate games, but you can see in him he's got all the star qualities. Bayern seem to have bagged themselves a real gem.
