Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee says the side must win their final four World Cup qualifiers if they are to reach the play-offs

Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee has urged his players to roll their sleeves up and secure four consecutive victories to ensure World Cup qualification.

The Scots face Lithuania away and Malta at home in a Group F double-header knowing they need to make up ground on the teams above them to make it to the finals in Russia next summer.

Gordon Strachan's side are fourth in the table on eight points going into the Lithuania game, six points behind leaders England.

Only the top team are guaranteed to qualify and McGhee feels they need to focus on winning their two upcoming games - as well as their final matches at home to Slovakia and away to Slovenia - if they are to progress.

"We can't afford any more mistakes, that's the position we are in. There's no hiding from that," said McGhee.

"I'm not going to sit here and say 'if they slip up and they might do this and they might do that'.

"We have to assume that we have to win all four games. We need to roll our sleeves up on Friday to win the first one."
