Robert Snodgrass is back in training with Hull and manager Mike Phelan says he will be fit for Scotland’s upcoming clash with England.

The 29-year-old has been included in Gordon Strachan's squad for the November 11 visit to Wembley in their World Cup Qualifier despite picking up an ankle injury in his side's defeat to Stoke last month.

However, he is targeting an early return to action and, while Phelan says he will still have to be assessed ahead of this weekend's Premier League fixture with Southampton on Sunday, Snodgrass is expected to be ready to turn out for his country.

"We have Robert available to train today. He's shown signs of getting back into the group. Whether that will be too late will depend on what he does today and tomorrow," Phelan said.

"Right now, it's about being available for Hull. After that, I don't think there will be an issue next week. I'm sure he'll be fit and ready for Scotland."

Hull have lost six Premier League games in a row but Phelan insists he is not letting himself get too down in the midst of those poor results and is confident he has the players to turn things around.

"It's a big learning curve for all of us. I'm relishing it. It's not fazing me," he said. "I'm not depressed or down, I'm pretty confident.

"It's about settling everything down. With the quality we've got and the togetherness we're trying to get, I'm sure we can achieve something."

Hull's slim squad at the start of the season was well documented but Phelan says his attention has now been turned to adding to his backroom team after coach Gary Walsh left to re-join Steve Bruce at Aston Villa.

"I seem at the moment to be looking for staff instead of players," he said.

"Gary conducted himself immaculately throughout. Aston Villa jumped in and he felt it was time to leave. He did so with my blessing."

The Hull boss confirmed that Dieumerci Mbokani and Markus Henriksen should be available for the visit of Southampton but has warned of a lengthy recovery period for goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

"Time will tell. It was back surgery after all," he added.
