Phil Jones may not be included in England's matchday squad to face Nigeria at Wembley on Saturday, Sky Sports News understands.

The Manchester United defender's partner is due to give birth, meaning he may be allowed to miss the World Cup warm-up.

James Tarkowski has already been taken off the standby list to have hernia surgery but, as it stands, England are not considering calling up a replacement at this stage.

Jones is one of four recognised centre-backs in Gareth Southgate's 23-man England squad for the World Cup in Russia, along with John Stones, Harry Maguire and Gary Cahill.

With Kyle Walker and Eric Dier also able to deputise in that position, Southgate feels there is adequate cover without bringing in another player to train with the squad.

Liverpool's Joe Gomez and Swansea's Alfie Mawson are both out injured, while Jones' club team-mate Chris Smalling has fallen out of favour with Southgate.
