England won the U17 World Cup in India with a thrilling 5-2 final victory over Spain.

The triumph caps a memorable year for England's youth teams, who have enjoyed huge success in 2017.

Here's our rundown of England's youth performances over the past 12 months…

2017 European Under-17 Championship
Result: Runner-up

England were seconds away from victory in Croatia before conceding a stoppage-time equaliser to Spain in the final. Cooper's men subsequently lost the penalty shootout and were denied the perfect end to what had been a hugely impressive tournament.

They eased through their group by winning all three games and scoring 10 goals in the process before seeing off Turkey in the semi-final. Jadon Sancho scored five goals in total and was named best player - one of six Englishmen to make the team of the tournament.

Result: Champions

This is not an official FIFA or UEFA competition but remains a prestigious youth tournament. The invitation-only event was won for a second consecutive year by England with Neil Dewsnip's side repeating the feat that Gareth Southgate's players had accomplished in 2016.

England won their first four games but, as at the Under-17 Euros, conceded an equaliser in stoppage-time in the final. This time they won the penalty shootout against Ivory Coast with Sheffield United's David Brooks being named as the player of the tournament.

2017 Under-20 World Cup
Result: Champions

There was an historic win for England in the Under-20 World Cup as Paul Simpson's side beat Venezuela in the final in South Korea thanks to Dominic Calvert-Lewin's first-half goal. They had earlier beaten Argentina, Mexico and Italy on their way to victory.

Everton's Ademola Lookman contributed with three goals, Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman picked up the golden glove award, while Dominic Solanke, now of Liverpool, won the golden ball awarded to the best player in the 24-team tournament.

2017 European Under-21 Championship
Result: Semi-finalists

In a summer of unprecedented success, there was an air of familiarity to events for Aidy Boothroyd's Under-21 side as they lost on penalties to Germany in their semi-final after drawing 2-2. Even so, this was England's best result at the tournament in eight years.

After three group stage eliminations in a row, England even topped their group thanks to wins over Slovakia and hosts Poland. Leicester's Demarai Gray top scored with two goals but penalty misses by Tammy Abraham and Nathan Redmond put an end to their hopes.

2017 European Under-19 Championship
Result: Champions

Keith Downing's Under-19 side beat Portugal 2-1 in the final to cap a stellar summer by winning this tournament for the first time in 24 years (when it was an Under-18 event). They did so by beating all five opponents that they faced and scoring 10 goals in the process.

Aston Villa's Easah Suliman and Manchester City youngster Lukas Nmecha scored the goals in the final but Nottingham Forest forward Ben Brereton and highly-rated Fulham talent Ryan Sessegnon topped the list of tournament top scorers with three apiece.

England qualified for this tournament in India as a result of their strong showing at the European Under-17 Championship earlier in the year and lit up the competition in India.

Jadon Sancho starred in the group stage but after he returned to Borussia Dortmund, Phil Foden and tournament top scorer Rhain Brewster - who netted consecutive hat-tricks in the quarter-finals and semi-finals - stepped into the limelight and helped inspire the team to a sensational comeback win against Spain in the final.
