Lucy Bronze has played down her tussle with manager Mark Sampson during training with England on Tuesday.

Photographs appeared to show the Bronze shrugging off Sampson as England went through their paces ahead of their upcoming World Cup Qualifier against Russia.

Bronze was quick to make light of the incident, telling social media: "When the gaffer tries to man mark you in training" followed by a series of 'laughing' emojis.

Sampson himself said he had no recollection of the incident at St George's Park, preferring instead to praise the all-round contribution of Bronze.

"I can't even recall it," he said. "I was pleased with the session, the players worked really hard. Bronzy has done exceptionally well.

"She is a great character and a really good player. We have a fantastic working relationship, the environment within the team is very positive."

Sampson has admitted that allegations of racism and bullying made by Eni Aluko have affected the players in his squad.

Sampson has also denied a separate allegation from Katie Chapman that she was dropped from his plans her after she told him she was getting a divorce.

He has vehemently denied the allegations and has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the Aluko case by both an internal Football Association review and an independent investigation.

England play Russia in their opening World Cup Qualifier at Prenton Park on Tuesday, September 19.
