Marcus Rashford looks set for a place in Gareth Southgate's first senior England squad after being left out of the U21 squad.
Aidy Boothroyd has omitted the Manchester United striker from his squad for the forthcoming European qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Bosnia & Herzegovina, suggesting he is set to be recalled to the senior team.
Southgate, promoted from the U21s to caretaker manager following the departure of Sam Allardyce this week, will name his squad for October's World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia on Sunday having overseen Rashford's hat-trick for the U21s during the last international break.
Allardyce opted not to include the 18-year-old in his first squad as England laboured to a 1-0 win over Slovakia, but the striker has scored in his last three appearances for United, most recently in the 4-1 win over Leicester.
Rashford, who only broke into the first team at Old Trafford towards the end of last season, made his England debut on May 27 in a friendly against Australia, scoring after just three minutes to become the youngest Englishman to score on his international debut.
He was then named in Roy Hodgson's squad for Euro 2016 and featured off the bench against Wales and Iceland before losing his place in the squad under Allardyce.
But with Harry Kane injured, there is at least once place up for grabs in attack and Rashford's hat-trick in the 6-1 win over Norway U21s earlier this month looks to have convinced Southgate to give him the call for the two October internationals.
Southampton's Nathan Redmond, who had also been tipped for a possible call-up by Southgate, will remain with the Young Lions as part of a 22-man squad to travel to Kazakhstan on October 6 and host Bosnia & Herzegovina in Walsall five days later.
Boothroyd will take charge of the team after being promoted from the U20s to cover Southgate's secondment, with a point in the first game enough to book a spot at Euro 2017 in Poland.
Bristol City's on-loan Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, who has scored 10 goals in 13 games for the Robins this term, is in line to win his first cap.
Brendan Galloway, Mason Holgate, Isaac Hayden and goalkeepers Jonathan Mitchell and Freddie Woodman are the other uncapped names in Boothroyd's squad.
