England got their Euro 2016 campaign rolling in the right direction as Daniel Sturridge’s dramatic late goal handed Roy Hodgson’s men a 2-1 win over Wales.
Gareth Bale had put Wales ahead with a first-half free-kick, but Hodgson's half-time changes proved crucial as England roared back after the break.
Vardy smashed home on 56 minutes before Sturridge struck in injury-time to see England leapfrog their opponents to move top of Group B.
We asked former England manager Steve McClaren to rate each player out of 10...
Joe Hart - 6
The only thing he had to do all afternoon was pick the ball out of the net. He was clearly at fault for the goal. I was surprised to see a mistake of that kind from such a reliable goalkeeper - but that's the position for you, one mistake and it's a goal.
Kyle Walker - 7
He got forward very well, especially in the second half. He needs to improve his end product though. However, England have got one of the best attacking full-backs at this tournament. He provides a great weapon for England to use. I like him.
Gary Cahill - 7
Both centre-backs played very well and were very solid when Gareth Bale moved up from his deep position. They also took care of Robson Hal-Kanu and Jonny Williams, who provided little threat.
Chris Smalling - 7
Same comments apply to Smalling. These two are very good as a pair and with Eric Dier shielding them, it's a combination that works well.
Danny Rose - 6.5
He was a little quieter than in the Russia game, but still got forward well. Much like Walker he needs better quality in the final third when he gets into dangerous areas. The final ball throughout the team needs to improve.
Dele Alli - 7
He was one of the better players in the first-half by making good runs in behind. However, he still has to prove he can be a regular scorer for England in that position.
Eric Dier - 7
If England lose Dier then they could be in trouble as he provides a great screen in front of the back four. He gives a platform for the rest of the team to go forward. His team-mates know if they race upfield, then there is security behind them.
Wayne Rooney - 8
A very good captain's performance. He's the leader in this team. He always wants the ball and nothing fazes him. The way he doesn't panic under pressure is a real help to this team. He's better when the forwards go on as he can provide the passes into them.
Adam Lallana - 7.5
He's a very good worker and a team player. Hodgson was right to start him. However, once again it's another player that needs a better end product. He has to score or he has to assist, he needs to add it to his game.
Harry Kane - 6
Kane's game relies on getting service and good quality into him but he didn't get that in the first half. I felt sorry for him as he was very isolated. He'll have better days in an England shirt.
Raheem Sterling - 5.5
I didn't think he was effective at all in the first-half. He didn't give us any width - he needed to stay wider. He looked like a player that has only scored two goals in 25 international games when he missed his chance in the first-half. At that level, he should have scored. That let him down as did his positioning.
SUBSTITUTES
Jamie Vardy - 8
He's a goalscorer, a worker and a pest. He's always on the move and he gave the Wales back three more to think about as he can go in behind, something which Kane doesn't do. He's there to score goals and that's what his done.
Daniel Sturridge - 8.5
He's a threat and a goalscorer. He scores great goals but he also scores toe pokes. We were crying out for that and he provided it. I like him a lot. He was my man of the match.
Marcus Rashford - 7
He looks a bit raw but he's a complete handful. Credit to Hodgson for going three up, by taking Lallana off and bringing a goalscorer on. In that respect, Rashord was involved in the last goal as he draw a defender out of position.
