Roy Hodgson would love to stay on as England manager after Euro 2016 and is excited by the young talent at his disposal.

Hodgson has named a 26-man provisional squad on Monday for this summer's tournament in France, including Manchester United's teenage striker Marcus Rashford for the first time.

And Hodgson says it is the promise of players like Rashford that keep him interested in staying on after his contract expires in July.

"The fact is I'm available, I'm ready to carry on, I'm happy to carry on," Hodgson said after announcing his squad.

"It would depend upon what the FA want, what the general public wants, although that's harder to judge of course. I shall wait to see.

Why Marcus Rashford's inclusion in England's provisional Euro 2016 squad shows they're looking to the future

"My focus, quite simply, at the moment is on this tournament and let's see what the tournament brings.

"There is [a desire to keep working with these players] but it's not just a desire to keep working with this group of players, it's a really good position to be the manager of England.

"It's a very prestigious position and, what's more, one that brings a lot of pride and honour.

"Of course, why would anyone - especially at this moment of time when I think the England squad is on the brink of doing something good or capable of doing something good - want to walk away?"

Rashford's arrival will be delayed by his participation in the FA Cup final on Saturday, but he could well make a senior international debut on May 27 against Australia.

"I haven't spent any time with him," Hodgson said. "I've watched him, of course. We have watched - that is Gary [Neville], Ray [Lewington] and myself.

"We've had conversations with people at the club about him and we, like everyone else in the country, are quite excited about this boy's potential, this boy's development.

"In an area where we are quite strong and have quite good alternatives, it is nice to bring in someone else who is also an alternative but is probably more in a stage of development than some others."
