Jack Wilshere is targeting a place in the England squad for Euro 2016 after completing 65 minutes for Arsenal's U21 side

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere says making the England squad for Euro 2016 is his target and that national team manager Roy Hodgson has been positive about his chances.

Wilshere has yet to feature for the Arsenal first team this season after breaking his leg last summer but he returned to action in an U21 game on Friday night.

The 24-year-old managed 65 minutes of the match against Newcastle, playing well in a 3-1 victory, and may have timed his return to fitness perfectly.

Wilshere was a key member of the England side during their impressive qualification campaign for Euro 2016 and hopes that, if he can prove his fitness for Arsenal in their remaining games, he will regain his place in the squad.

"I spoke to the England manager, I know what I need to do to get in, and that is the target."

Asked if Hodgson had been encouraging in their conversation, Wilshere added: "He was really encouraging.
